Take an offshore fishing tour
If fishing is your fancy, a day of reef fishing is a clear choice. The Southern Great Barrier Reef will see you reeling in the likes of Red Emperor, Coral Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Sweetlip, Cod or Nannygai. So jump on board a local tour, armed with all the gear you need and invaluable local knowledge. Then, all you have to do is cast a line and enjoy the day.
Sunset Kayaking
It's no secret that you can catch the perfect sunset at 1770, one of only three places on the east coast where you can watch the sunset over the water. The calm inlets offer excellent kayaking conditions. However, if you don't have your own kayak, you can take a fully guided local tour with the opportunity to spot turtles, dolphins and other wildlife as you explore the Joseph Banks Conservation area, Captain Cook’s landing spot, secluded beaches and headlands.

You can't miss the bright pink amphibious buses dotted around Agnes Water and 1770. An iconic way to explore the area and learn more about the local history. From deserted sandy beaches, remote national parks and picturesque coastlines, you'll be able to spot seabirds, turtles, dolphins, mantas and a vast array of native flora and fauna only accessible by these land and sea ex-military vehicles. Explore the Paperbark Forest
Stepping into the Paperbark Forest has an air of magic about it. With 400 metres of wooden stepping stones and walkways across the lush underground, you'll weave through the towering Paperbark Tea Trees. Take in the sounds of the beautiful frogs and spot butterflies and birds as you make your way through the Reedy Creek Reserve. Be sure to pack the camera and some bug spray.
