Inside Agnes Water

Whether you are a resident of the town or just a visitor, there is absolutely heaps to do in 1770 and Agnes Water. Apart from being nestled right on the ocean, there's plenty to see during the holidays and all year round. So to help you get settled into your new home, here is a complete guide of things to do and see around the area.

Agnes Water is the most northern surf beach on the East Coast of Australia. Sitting on the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef with a beautiful coastline, there are many beaches and waterways to enjoy. So whether you enjoy relaxing beachside, diving in to catch a wave, taking the boat or kayak out or throwing in a line, there is something for everyone. Both Agnes Water and the town of 1770 are popular tourist destinations for the area's historical past, access to the Great Barrier Reef, beautiful year round weather and relaxed atmosphere.

The Town of 1770 – named after the year Captain Cook landed in Australia for the first time – is a tourist town in the Gladstone Region, Queensland, Australia. The town's name was changed to Seventeen Seventy on 1 June 1991, but reverted to Town of 1770 on 15 December 1993.

Agnes Water and the Town of 1770 offer plenty of activities for everyone, from fishing and snorkelling through to golfing. Here are some ideas to get you started on your adventure:

  • Take a tour of the local waterways and attractions. Discover the area's beauty with an experience onboard one of the famous pink LARCs covering both land and sea and boasting some of Queensland’s best coastal scenery.

  • Explore nature in its natural habitat. Bushwalkers will find many trails to suit varying fitness levels and experience in Agnes Water’s national parks and reserves, including the beautiful Paperbark Forest Walk.

  • Catch a wave or two with professional surf lessons at 1770 Surf School, one of Australia’s longest running schools. If you don't have any luck catching waves, try your hand at stand up paddleboarding or kayaking instead!

  • Distract yourself with a round (or three) of golf at the local 9-hole course, complete with picturesque ocean views.
