Enviable coastline

One of the biggest draw cards of Hervey Bay is its gorgeous coastline with some of the most beautiful, sheltered waters in the world. You'll also find plenty of clean, crystal waters to throw a line in and for those without a boat, the 868-metre-long Pier offers deep water fishing on high tide. The stinger free waters make for a great place to swim, and small offshore reefs await to be explored by snorkel. You can also take in the coastline along the 17km Esplanade that lines the bay.

Incredible marine life

Hervey Bay is a popular destination for whale watching from July to November. The warm, calm waters offer a haven for whales and calves to rest and play. Local tour operators know exactly where to find these majestic animals as they participate in their annual migration. You can also spot Bottlenose dolphins year-round, often found playing alongside boats or surfacing just offshore in groups or pairs. Turtles also take advantage of the calm waters as an ideal spot to lay eggs, so keep an eye out for these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat.

Close to island adventures

K’gari (Fraser Island) is a World Heritage Site, just a short ferry ride from Hervey Bay. It's one of the largest sand islands in the world and is home to innumerable species of wildlife, including koalas and dingoes. This 1,840-kilometre square island with its pristine white beaches, clear waters and ancient rainforest offers an amazing experience for those who visit. The main attractions on K’gari include The Pile Valley, Waddy Point, Eli Creek (the home of giant freshwater crocodiles), Lake McKenzie, Maheno Shipwreck and Kingfisher Bay Resort & Spa.

Hervey Bay offers everything you would need or want without dealing with big city life. The town centre has a vibrant small business community with retail, cafes, restaurants and bars, plus national retailers like Kmart, Big W, Spotlight, BCF, and Bunnings.
